Fearless
Depression is a serious illness, which can impact a woman’s life negatively. My thesis project, Fearless, illustrates the sense of a depressed woman for a period of time. I think people need to comprehend what is means to be depressed, see what the feeling is like, and know how depression can hit a woman’s self-esteem and motivation to be alive. I want to provide an aesthetic experience of psychological feelings that is beyond representing physical objects. The complexity of my images and their feeling of vibration, containment, and confusion provide a relationship between them and a woman's experience of depression. I used adjectives commonly used with depression (heavy, hard, dark, down) as a guideline to create these image manipulations.
Making this project about a condition that a friend suffered from was a hard decision to make. It was a sensitive and personal experience that she felt inappropriate to discuss with anyone. I did this project to help her to get away from the past, start a new life, and represent her journey from afraid to fearless.
